Anyone know much about 4L60E trannys?

Just called my local tranny shop, to get a quote on a rebuild, and they said $500 for labor, (ive got to pull the tranny myself and take it over there) and then parts are extra. He then said expect to pay between $600-$700 in parts alone to rebuild the tranny. Is this a good estimate on the cost of parts to rebuild this tranny? The reason Iask, is b/c last week I called this shadetree mechanic out in the country, and he said he would R&R my tranny, and rebuild it for $900 total. So what gives? Something isnt adding up...........

 

Im considering rebuilding it myself-- 4L60E tranny in my 94 Chevy z71, and was wondering if I could order and install this rebuild kit?

Will this kit work? Anything else I need for the rebuild? What about a New Torque Converter?

check eBay for that tranny

they have several reputable companies that sell that tranny for 650.00 , 550.00 and even less

2 of the companies i know of offer an additional 1 , 2 , 3, year warranty for 10% 20% 30% of winning bid respectively

there is also a company that sells a step by step video of complete tear down and rebuild for less than 40.00

parts for that tranny even high perf. should only run 300.00 to 400.00 with a rebuilt torque conv.

Thanks Todd for the info. Tell me, how much is a new torque converter? Would you trust some of the people on ebay? I may go that route........thanks!

I got mine in my old truck rebuilt for 900.. parts labor and a shift kit..

I know they aren't tough enough to stand up behind a motor that is pumped up. My son's '96 Z-28 dynos over 500 r.w.h.p. and brand new 4L60Es life expectancy is in weeks. If you have a stout motor you may consider a TCI built TH350. This combo has been holding up well even after adding a intercooler and 50 shot of laughing gas.
