Power Window Regulator Replacement

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have a service manual or other reference detailing the procedure for replacing the entire power window regulator assembley (i.e., rails, cables, motor, etc). I got a complete replacement assembly for mine off ebay but now I need to find out how to install it. I could fumble my way through it but would rather know how to do it right the first time. If someone could post it or email it to me I'd be grateful If it matters I'm replacing the one in the drivers door. Thanks in advance.

Rick

P.S. Paid $46.00 for the unit + $15.00 shipping. Pretty good deal.

First you have to remove the door trim panel:

1. Remove the triangle behind the power mirror. Just grab the top of it and pull.

2. Remove the bezel around the door handle. It's just snapped in.

3. Remove/Disconnect the switch panel. There are 2 access holes at the bottom edge of the switch plate that you can insert a small screwdriver to press in the clips.

4. Remove the manual lock lever. You may have to pry on the front or rear edge of it to pop it out.

5. Remove 2 7mm screws, one behind the manual lock lever and the other at the bottom of the door pull handle.

6. Remove entire door panel by lifting straight up, then straight towards you.

7. Disconnect all connectors to speakers, courtesy light, etc.

8. Secure window glass with tape. I put a piece of cloth over the top of the frame and then secured the window with clear packing tape.

9. Loosen bolts at the clamps that secure the regulator to the glass. I believe they are 10mm bolts. At this point, it might be easier to remove the regulator if you plug the switch plate back in and lower the regulator a bit. The glass should stay in place.

10. Remove 5 bolts from the regulator assembly. One at each corner, and one at the motor. The regulator has metal hooks sticking out so that it will hang there and not fall into the door.

11. Remove regulator through largest hole at bottom of the door by grabbing both regulator rails and lifting up to unhook the regulator from the door, then orient the rails so they can come out through the hole at the bottom.

Installation is the reverse of removal. Once you have the new regulator bolted in, you will have to plug in the switch plate to raise the regulator till it meets the glass. It's a pretty easy job and doesn't take as long as it sounds. Good luck!
