Does my 98 1500 Express use a Can Bus system?

My van needs a serious audio upgrade! Mine has the standard 1.5 DIN AM/FM cassette player (which doesn't work) and a detached CD player. The main reason for the upgrade is for the GPS and MP3 capability. That way I don't have to rig up my cellphone with a suction cup and extra wires running everywhere.

I wanted to go with a 2 DIN touch screen radio but I think some serious hacking may be involved. Plus it has a plastic faux wood grain instrument panel cover (it's a conversion van) and I'd rather not start filing or hacking on it.

So I bought one of those 1 DIN installation kits with wiring harness from Wal-Mart that fits 1982 to 2000 GM vehicles and plan on using a 1 DIN radio with a flip out screen. Hopefully the flip out screen won't interfere with the ventilation controls above the radio.

This is the one I am interested in buying:

The auction mentions something about maybe needing a CanBus decoder? I've never heard of a CanBus system so I looked it up. Wikipedia says it was developed by Bosch in 1983. I'm still not 100% sure what it does but I'd imagine anything built within the last few years has one.

My only question is does my 1998 1500 Express van have this system? I wouldn't think so.

The van does not have OnStar or anything else fancy. The only thing the radio has to do with anything else is there is a volume speed controller that increases the volume as the van speeds up.

So I just connect the wiring adapter that came with the kit between the new radio and the van's wiring harness and that's it?

Did some more research and if the website is correct, this system was installed on vehicles built in 2008 and up so I guess I'm good to go.
