Got a rattle...

I've got a new noise, it's a rattle/clunking from the driver's front wheel. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was the axle shaft; that's what it sounds like. It happens when turning left mainly...it sounds like a rock rolling around inside the center cap.

I jacked up the front thinking I have a bad wheel bearing, absolutely smooth, no noises, and no play in either wheel. I grabbed both half shafts and worked them around...there was a little more play in the driver's side at the wheel-end than the passenger's, but we are talking just enough to feel it move, not flopping around loose.

I'm at a loss...

The next step, I'm going to pull the wheel cover and the cover that hides the axle stub nut and see if that may have come loose...if that did, then I likely have a bad wheel bearing? Truck has about 110k on the clock right now...

My 06 sounded like that. Was a combo of issues for me. Bad hub assembly, ball joints and upper control arm bushings(I'm at 215k). The hub was my main culprit on the passenger side and ball joints on the driver.... good luck

The bearings both seem good? Unless they are just starting to go bad...

I was looking on Rockauto and they had AC Delco hubs for $112, so I got one on the way...even if it's not the hub, I got a spare.

Ok, think I figured out the issue.

I have rust building up on the inside face of the rotor. This has caused a wierd wear pattern on the pads (which are original at 114k) and as it flakes off in sections; it causes a wierd noise as the rotor is pulled ever so slightly out of alignment by the brake hose.

There is nothing else it could really be, the bearing is smooth and without play.

So I'm on the hunt for replacement rotor. What brands should I look for or avoid?
