New rims New TPMS

I am getting Rims and tires tomorrow from custom offsets. With new TPMS sensors

I talked to a mechanic and he said he would have to manually put up each sensor into the computer. Not sure if that is right. Can I just buy the TPMS tool or do I need to bring to the dealer?

You can throw the wheels on and learn them on the GM system. No need to do anything fancy. I've done this on my Colorado and my two Silverados I had prior. New sensors in the winter wheels, when I changed over to them just bolted them on and did a relearn no issues.

 

Can be relearned by dealer or if you buy one of the tools EL-50448.

Agreed, that person is speaking nonsense, aftermarket sensors program just fine into factory system.
