AC No that cold 01 5.3 Sub

My 01 5.3 sub has a hard time idiling when the AC is on. with AC off it is approx 500 RPM when the compressor kicks in it drop 100 rpm or so and surges up an down. Second the AC takes a long time to get cold in hot wheather. Anyone have similar problems with their AC. PS my compressor had to be replace at 60K it locked up and blew a line.

What should a 5.3 Idle at 600, 500?

It sounds like your engine is idling a bit low. With out my AC on, I think mine idles around 800-900. I'm not positive, but I think that when you turn the AC on, there is a solenoid that bumps the idle up just a little bit to keep it from stalling.
