Painting the Tube Steps

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but my 2014 came with the round chrome tube steps, and I couldn't stand them, made the truck look lowered. Since I took them off, I've put a leveling kit and rear lift block, and even at 6' 4" the step up is more than I want to deal with, and the missus wants me to put them back on, but I refuse to put them on as is. I've scoured the classifieds locally and no one is taking off their rectangular steps (in black trim) so I'm considering painting mine.

I know paint won't really stick to chrome that well, especially in the environment the steps will be in, but how will bedliner? I have the sport bar in the bed and thought it'd be cool to bedliner the steps then paint match them to the grey on the bar and other bits of plastic trim.

Anyone done this that can give me tips and or pics of the end result? Thanks.

I thought of doing the same but concluded I would be better off to buy the steps I like and sell the ones that came with my truck.  I haven't done this as of yet but you may come to the same conclusion.
