Steering issue on 89

My 89 dually has a dead zone in the steering. 1/8 turn in each direction does nothing at speed and the truck can wander a bit. Had a Mustang that did that back in the early 70s. What causes this and how to fix it?

Add me to the list, compadre. My '88 has it too. Think it's maybe the upper column arm but sure would like to hear from someone about it. May want to change out my column here.
