03 gmc 1500 electrical issue

When I go to start my truck, it starts, gets to 1000 rpm and it shuts the fuel off immediately. None of the gauges move when I put the key in run except the tach.(maybe speedo idk cuz it wont move since it wont run). Dome light doesn't work even with the switch. No security light. Only abs and battery light. I have had it on the charger. Just got a new bcm because I looked at the schematics and the bcm controls most of the things inside the cab. Wtf is wrong. I havnt had a truck in 4 days.

Can you be more specific about the symptoms? When did this all start? Did it ever run properly in the time you have owned it? Did you check all the fuses? When it shuts off, will it re-start right away? Need more details. 

 

Fuel problem? 

 

Try soaking your air filter with starting fluid, and then try starting it. Not dripping wet, but use a fair amount.

If it stays running for a longer period of time then it did without the starting fluid, the you have a fuel issue. 

DO NOT LATCH THE AIR BOX, it could explode and damage the plastic. 

It may backfire through the intake, don't freak out. The fire will go out quickly. Smother with towel if needed. Don't use a fire extinguisher. 

 

Spark problem?

 

Take one spark plug wire off (or coil), and hook it to a spark plug (ground the spark plug to the engine or frame). Watch the spark as someone starts it. If the spark stop before the engine stops rotating, then you have a spark issue. If it wont restart right away, does it have spark?

You can spay starting fluid in intake as well.  It wont catch on fire haha

You are exactly right, and that works great to start the engine, but it wont answer any questions. His truck already starts. It will burn up one shot of starting fluid in 1 second. We need to know if its dying due to a lack of fuel. If you spray it directly into the intake, you would have to hold a steady stream of starting fluid and if it pops out the intake while you are standing there spraying starting fluid - you lose your eyebrows. If you soak the air filter, it will suck the starting fluid out of the air filter for 20-30 seconds before it runs out of fuel - which will tell you if its shutting off due to a lack of fuel.
