6.0 litre gas mileage?

Does anyone know what the MPG is on a 2500 hd with a 6.0 litre? Can any members share any expreiences with this. I am undecided if I am gonna buy a 2004 1500 z71 or a 2003 2500 HD 6.0. I love the look of the Hd, but am unsure of the gas mileage. I would appreciate some insight.

This is how my 99 is doing so far:

Miles on trip od: 44975.4 miles

Gallons: 3082.9

Cost: $4160.56

MPG: 14.59

Cost per mile: $0.0925

Hours: 1291.0

Hours per tank: 10.23

AVE MPH: 31.89

Gallons per Hour: 2.27

Total miles on truck 62000

I pull a 16 ft. stock trailer about 100 to 400 miles per month and haul up to 3000 lbs feed once or twice a month so all of my useage is included in the totals here. For an every day driver you cant beat the 6.0 in my opion(sp).

I don't know if it's just because I haul a lot, have a heavy right foot, have 285's or just have a faulty truck but I'm tickled to death to get 12mpg out of my truck. Just yesterday I when to the gas station put in 26 gallons checked the trip 289miles do the dividing thing and boom 11.1mpg. I realize that the 285's throw off my trip so I'll be give it 12mpg. But that's where my truck sits no matter how I drive it. On strickly express way I can get 13-14. Please tell me what you guys are doing to get the reported gas mileage.. Thanks BDBWTE

If you don't really need a Heavy Duty truck then the 1500 Z71 will by far get better milage than the HD.

I would say that on the avg, a 1500 Z71 would get approx 3 MPG better than a 6.0L HD. If you don't drive alot then it's not a big deal... but if you drive 15-20K miles /year, then it could add up.

I get 15-16 MPG's on the highway with my HD vs. the 18-19 MPG that you would get from a 5.3L Z71.

If you are going to do any towing or hauling you can't beat the HD, and milage is no longer a factor then.

Well I believe that you should drive it like you stole it at all times unless the law is near. I keep my size 15 into the injectors quite a bit. I would love to see the computer guy pull up my driving habits because there is no way that chip can learn how I am going to drive. Last week I pulled my stock trailer to a show and when we left the fair grounds their was a hill about 3/4 mile long to pull, so I pull out right behind a 01 or 02 PS and we start up the hill he also is pulling a bumper pull trailer and is blowing black smoke all over everything, so I change lanes and go past him with the 6.0 pulling at about 5000 rpms he chases me for about 10 miles up and down hills before he turns off. I don't take it easy on my truck and over the time the worst has been 11.32mpg and the best 16.45. :wtf:

See this is what I'm talking about. A fellow person to pushes their truck to it's limits and expects it do it well and take it. Brings a tear to my eye.

I think the 6.0 is an outstanding pulling motor. Not fast like the 8.1 or especially the DMAX but very capable. I'll stand behind my truck and I stand behind her infront of 8.1 and DMAX owners.

Best I've gotten is about 13.5 mpg on the interstate. Worst was pulling a small trailer with a couple thousand pounds on it through the mountains from Cincinnati, OH to Chattanooga, TN which was about 11 mpg. On average commuting I get about 12.5 mpg or so.
