I can’t find a 2001 suburban area

I couldn’t find the right area to post this so if someon could help me that would be great anyways I have a 2001 suburban 2500 with a 6.0 and barn doors. I have recently changed out the handle on my passenger side barn door. The exterior one. The old one worked fine other than the handle was broken. After changing it I can unlock it with the key fob, I hear it unlock yet as soon as I pull the handle it locks again and I can’t open the door. If I use the key the same thing happens. If I put the key in the lock and unlock it and hold it I can get it to open. I am just at a loss as to what it could be. Ive unlocked it with the door open and everything moves but as soon as I pull the handle it locks again. Every time.
