Bowtie Replacement

Hi All,

Had a nice qrtr sized rock jump up and hit my bowtie emblem and put a nice spiderweb on the plastic housing. Im lucky i guess cause if it hit my bumper or hood it could have done some serious damage. I do have the 3M clear tape on my painted front end to protect from small rocks but this was serious..... I know the bowtie is attached by two clips, Im wondering what the best way to pull this sucker out is. Does the Grill need to come off? If I pop the plastic cover off above the grill is there enough room to sneak a hand in and release the clips? Any recommendations on the best place to pick one up is? The truck is an 03 Z71 Tahoe. Ive read the threads on this and it doesnt sound difficult just looking for some futher clarification. Thanks for your help!

That's how I got to mine! Took the cover off the top of the grill shell and radiator and there was plenty of room to get to the nuts that screw onto the posts on the backside of the bowtie.

I ordered my extra bowtie that I had painted from GM Parts Direct and I think it was $20 or so.

Is there any trick to getting those plastic locking bolts off the top grill cover without busting them? Can you pick up new ones from Gm parts or a delaer? They dont look like they will be easy to get off???

Mine came off pretty easy! I just used the blunt side of the blade on my pocket knife to pry up the center part a little to get my finger under it. You could prob use a butter knife or a flat blade screwdriver would prob work even better. After pulling the center piece out the remaining piece can be pulled out by hand.

They are actually pretty tough. I've pulled them out and put them back in several times without damaging them. :smash:
