Ready for Nitrous

Aight guys...I think I've decided to put the super charger on hold for a while and go with some juice! :nono: Well, I've had my eye on the Venom VCN 2000 system. That thing sounds and looks soo d**n cool. I like the 3 mode choices you can choose from: Drag, Linear, and Timed. Well, I wanna know if any of you have heard about this system or what kinda systems ya'll are using and some feedback about them.

I think a supercharger is much more economical than a Nitros system, because a supercharger kicks in everytime you mash the go-pedal. However with a NOS system, you have to activate it each time you wanna go fast. Plus, you have to fill up the bottle every time you run out. I'm not a big fan of NOS in general, isn't real great on the engine and I feel its cheating - but its your truck. I would just go with a supercharger, maybe put it on the juice later.

I definitely agree and see where you are coming from about the NOS vs S/C. Believe me, I want to be blown soo bad, inparticular the new Magnacharger RADIX system. And I will have that eventually. But that system is $6000 firm. Another reason I am thinking nitrous is b/c my buddy has a WRX thats somewhat modified and I am tired of his comments about me trying to race my truck and his car will always be faster. But, I'm not saying I want juice just to please him, I want to be able to turn a few heads at the track with a 13 sec. truck! And I can save up $1200 alot faster than 6 grand. I've also talked to a bunch of guys running juice on trucks like mine as long as I don't try to shoot like a 200-250 shot, my motor will like it. But alot of guys are shooting 75-150 shots with no problems sa long as they don't spray at every red light! But, thanks for the input!

I did the NX install including a digital nitrous controler for under $1000. I do NOT like how the venom system taps into the factory injectors and works them even harder. Problems happen when you approach 100% injector pulse width. I went with a wet system and am very happy. The stock fuel system on a wet set up will support a 150 shot without any problems.

I used a Crane digital nitrous controler made for import cars to provide a progressive RPM based system. It greatly limits the shock loading of the rest of the drive train for longevity. It is fully adjustable for start RPM, full flow RPM, and shut down RPM. Allows a first gear power reduction if you have tire spin issues, and a built in control for a 2 second purge when you power it up. Only thing extra I had to add was a tach adaptor from MSD to run it.

Right now I have it set on a 100 shot, starting at 3500 RPM with full kicking in at 5000 RPM and cut out at 5600 RPM just before the transmission shifts at 5800 RPM.

I'm keeping her set low for now until I have time to dyno tune and double verify my air/fuel ratio under load with and without NO2. Right now I'm at 14.2 with stock tires and very little else done. By next year I hope to get a converter and some good tires, with the tuning and going to 150 I hope to be running some low 13's.

Thanks man. That sounds pretty cool. I just walked in the door a few mins ago and couldn't be happier because one of my buds is selling his NX kit off of his Camaro. Adjustable 150 shot with 10 pound bottle for $300!! Thqat sounds like steal to me and I told him I am gonna pay him cash when I get my paycheck Thurs. I think I will be happy with that?! I hope. Does that sound like a good deal to you guys, because I am overjoyed. Another plus is another big racer intown is gonna put it in with me so I don't have to pay anyone to install it. Well, except the case of beer i told him i would slpit while we do it!

Make sure you use some type of window switch or digital controller. Keeps the engine and transmission happy.

I used the fuses for the towing package for my stealth set up. Pull the cover off the fuse block under the hood. One is accessory and one is electric brakes, should be a post with a nut for each. Works great as I don't spray and tow at the same time and the current draw for each is within reason. I installed the injector on the bottom of my intake about the middle of the tube and loomed it all. I used a 90 degree elbow on the passenger fuel rail to mount the 'noids on the passenger fender. All wiring is hidden and loomed, the braided lines are loomed, and the 'noids have a ABS plastic cover hiding them. The 10 lb bottle fits nicely under the back seat and the main line runs under the carpet on the passenger side, down the factory wire channel, and through a hole I drilled in the fire wall. The perfect spot for that hole is 1/4 inch above where the firewall transitions to vertical and 1 inch to the passenger side from where the transmission tunnel is. Make sure you use a wire bung to prevent chaffing and something to seal the hole, I used under coating afterwards to seal it up. Overall the install went very much like a good amp install.

I have a 2002, so no egr, in the blank spot where it was is the perfect place to install the throttle switch. I drilled and tapped the plastic then used locktight for the mount.

I guess I need to do some pictures huh?

What exactly is a window switch and a digital controller? How does it make it safer? What exactly do they do? I be honest when I say that I don't really know alot about nitrous. I know the basics but not too much more than that. All I know about the kit I am getting is that it's a NX kit adjustable to either 150 or 175 shot. It has an activatior switch that you flip on and I guess it senses WOT and then sprays. Thats all I pretty much know about it. Any advice?

Well I can't say anything about the window switch, but the digital control monitors different aspects of your engine and varies the amount of nitros to inject. If something isn't right and you spray a 175 shot in there, things will not like you anymore. You're gonna want one for engine/tranny/drivetrain longevity (or at least as much longevity as possible on a juiced vehicle)

this is the untimate system to get

click me then the maximizer more

we are instaling it on the camaro right now...a few more wire to connedt and she will be all done

NITROUS WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have had computer programming done, then you will need it done AGAIN. Nitrous has a effect on combustion which can cause detenation, which is why retarding timing is sometimes done while nitrous is being used. The problem is Computer Programming usually advances the timing, which can enhance the danger Nitrous poses to your engine.

Short explaination:

Nitrous + Timing advancements =[can equal] Bad Boom in engine. :flag:

Something to consider if you have a chip/HPPIII or similiar set-up......

that maximizer system looks pretty cool. I got my kit from my buddy last night and found out its the NX Iceman kit. It has a floor switch, that when activated, which injects the nitrous when the pedal is smashed to the floor. My buddies said I might wanna activate it, then mash on the gas about 3/4, then floor it to spray. Another way I was told is to not activate the switch until about half way through the run, activate it with my foot to the floor and hold on. What ya'll think?

Overall best way is to install a window switch. A digital controler is just a window switch with more adjustments and options.

A window switch makes nitrous operation much safer. It monitors the engines RPM and engages the nitrous at a set RPM and keeps it on until it reaches the upper RPM. Several styles are avaliable with MSD probably being the most common.

The best minimum set up in my opinion; main arming switch, full throttle switch, and a window switch.

As I stated before out trucks can safely go to 150 with no fuel system mods. After that the details become very important. I would strongly stress you need to go to LS1.com and LS1tech.com, check the forums on NO2 and read up alot. Most everything that applies to LS1 cars go right with our trucks.

Male sure you switch to NGK TR6 plugs for nitrous use!!!!!!! DO NOT USE STOCK PLUGS! The NGK's work fine for normal driving and work well with nitrous use also. You should get about 30,000 miles on a set of TR6's.

Nitrous is safe if you do the research, if not, then only running the engine without oil will destroy it faster.

So waiting2drag where do you live? I'm smack in the middle of Texas.
