I'm wanting to upgrade to 20", and have found that aftermarket wheels go for about $300 and up each. Some SS wheel I've seen are for about $250 each. Are there any aftermarket wheels that can be had for under $300 each. How about a 20" wheel/tire package for $1500? Is that possible?

I think you will be hard pressed to find 4 20" wheels and tires for $1500.00 In fact most pshops want that kind of money for 16" wheels with 285s

Or, they want that kind of money for 1 20" rim. :chevy:

I just put together a set of 20" Centerline Stingray IIIs and Toyo Proxes S/Ts for a little over $1700 soup to nuts.

Do you care what style and finish of 20", or you just want 20" and don't care what it looks like?

 

If you don't care, Big Jim's Rims has 20" BOSS 301's in polished finish for $150/each. Those should fit your budget with money to spare.

Thanks for the help guys. I looked at the Boss 301s, and they're pretty good looking. Any reason why they're so cheap? Too heavy? Cheap material? I didn't know that 285 will fit on the stock 16" wheel, but at only 7" width I'll still have that skinny look.

After looking at Big Jim's website some more under the 20" section, I've narrowed my choices down to either the Boss 301 Superfinish ($149) or the Stingray III ($175). I'll most likely go with the Stingray III, since it's the lighter weight of the 2 (30 lbs compared to 38 lbs for the Boss 301). It's actually the lightest of all the 20" that Big Jim carries. That's a big plus. Now I have to decide on tire size. I was told by a local tire shop that 305 will NOT rub, is that true? I was thinking that 285 would guarantee no rubbing, and 305 might. What do you guys think? BTW, I do not plan on lowering my truck. I assume lowering will not allow 305 for sure.

I have heard of 305's fitting on non-lowered trucks. I don't know for sure that they'll fit, but I've heard of some people with those on 20".

Wheel offset makes a difference though. I don't know what offset you'd need to fit 305's without any rubbing at all.

I guess I can run 285 in the front and 305 in the rear. Would there be anything to worry about if I do it this way?

I don't think I would do that. It may screw with the ABS system since it will think some wheels are moving faster than others. I'm assuming you're doing this to a 4x2, if it was a 4x4 then it would definately mess with the four wheel drive.

Update: Just put on a set of SS wheels/tires for $300 each corner, I really like the 20 x 8.5 SS wheels. I was looking at Stingray III for $179 each, but with tires, the cost would've been more than what I spent, and for some reason, I like the SS wheel a lot more. 16s suck the big one, 20s should've been OEM (not just on SS). :smash:

Yep, chrome would have matched up pretty good with the side molding on my truck too! :thumbs:

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
