Anyone try this?

I am adding an aftermarket amp to my factory stereo in my 2001 Suburban and trying to save a little money. I was looking at the wiring schematics and connector outputs in the factory service manual and it looks like it should be very easy to add my own RCA outputs to the stock audio system. I going to tap into the wires marked Right Rear Low Level Input (+), Left Rear Low Level Input (+) and Rear Low Level Input (-). Then run RCA cables from there into my amp, reducing the need for a line-level converter and less wires having to be run.

I'm going to try it in the next couple of days and report back the results. Unless someone has tried this already, then we know it works.

You need outputs not inputs...I don't think the factory systems have low outputs...I think your gonna fry something..This is what you need to do this install...Line Output Converter

Outputs, yeah, thats what I said. According to the Factory Service Manuals there are low level output signals going from the stock head unit to the stock amp. I'm just going to tap into these wires for that signal to go into my aftermarket amp. I'm not introducing anything into the factory system, just tapping into a signal. I've seen this done to the factory amp on my previous car, a Lexus IS300.

If this doesnt work, I'll probably get one of these:

My only question now is if that signal is fixed or variable. Here are the pin-outs for the connector between the factory headunit and factory amp.

I reccomend you use a line output converter...I am not aware of factory amps so I cannot answer that.I have a 2001 and there were not low outputs. But it looks like from the manual you have it does have them. What I like about the converter is that it's adjustable, you can tune to your amp perfectly......Gun
