Need Fuel System Help ASAP...

First off its a 00 Sierra 4.8 2wd.... SCSB....

Today I went out to start the truck and she start up. I can turn her over but I think shes not gettin fuel.

I noticed that the fuel pump wasnt priming when I turned the ignition to ON... so I started checking fuses and the fuel prime check. The price check wasnt lighting up with the test light and then I found that the ECM2 fuse was blown. So I changed that and then the truck would start but if I pushed the gas it would die. Basically it would only idle and it was struggling at that....

So now it kinda starts... still doesnt prime the fuel pump... and dies when any gas is givin.

Help me out guys... Im thinking its the fuel pump but I dont wanna go buy one untill I know... I cant see what else it would be.

If it is the fuel pump am I lookn at mucho $$$ to get her fixed? I can replace it myself I think but are the parts expensive?

Any ANY help would be appreciated....

Since you were able to get it started, I just don't think it would be a fuel pump problem. I could be wrong, but every fuel pump I've seen go out, usually just completely dies, nothing in between. If it ends up being a fuel pump, they are not fun to replace, but can be done by almost anyone if you've got time, tools, and a little mechanical intuition. It will be very heavy if there is gas in the tank, so I'd recommend getting a floor jack to help you lower it down. You will have to drop the tank. That's the hard part, putting in the new one is easy. I put one in a friend's Dodge the other day, cost him about 200$ or so for the pump. But again, it doesn't sound like your problem is a pump, IMO. Do you have a strong smell of gas coming out of the exhaust pipe when it is idling? I'm sure someone here knows more than I do, hopefully they will chime in here! Good luck, Chris

I tried to look up the fuel pump on gmpartsdirect.com and it looks like anywhere form 250-300 for the fuel pump. My mom had her replaced by the dealer a while back for 700... so they will take you on that. Best thing to do would be buy one online and do it yourself. My friend has a 2001 4.8 and it would do what you are talking about.. it would crank and idle but when you hit the gas it would die.. so he would just get in it and stab it for about 15 seconds and it worked fine after that..

Oh man Im really lost now....

So this morn I spent some time readin my Chiltons book and was pretty set on having to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel pump...

But then I figure Ill try to turn her over for the hell of it....

So... ofcourse... she starts right up like nothing happened.....

Run fine . Idles Fine... my WOT runs seem the same... so im guessing its getting all the fuel thats need.....

So whats goin on here guys? I dont get it...

One thing I was thinkin is maybe someone the pump overheated and blew my ECM2 fuse... which I replaced... then maybe I should have reset the computer.

I still wanna find out what was wrong so I dont end up stuck agian.

Just an idea, if you haven't disconnected your battery and reset the computer, maybe you should take your truck to AutoZone and get them to run a free diagnosis test, only takes a couple seconds. It could have thrown a code that can help you solve your problem. I don't know, just a suggestion. If it runs fine now, seems like it may be an electrical problem? Again, just a guess. Chris

Yeah, just tell them you think you have a problem with your truck and that you'd like them to run a diagnosis on your truck. It looks like a handheld tuner (HPIII), plugs into your diagnosis port and scans the computer. If there's a problem, it will show the code #, if not, it will say No Codes or something like that. Took about a minute on my truck. The port for my truck is under the dash on the driver's side. Looks like the port your Monitor plugs into on your PC. I'd imagine your's is similar. Chris

I was just there and they didnt have the OBDIII scanner. I guess they have the ones for the OBDII, but once the guy started telln me to hookup a jumper wire and count the flashes I knew it was time to leave....

That might be for the OBDII but ive never heard of that for NBS trucks.

My pump is making werid sounds so im thinking its on its last legs.

I believe the jumper thing only works for pre 96.. I went to autozone and they have a scanner that hooks into the same place that a programmer would.. under the steering wheel that gives them the code and resets it.. Then they take the code inside and look it up on their computer and tell you what it is.. In my case my bank 2 sensor was running lean so i just got into some bad gas.. My fuel pump used to whine real loud.. and i started running Amsoil Performance Improver and it doesnt whine anymore.. just giving you ideas.. would be a lot better spending that 12 bucks than 300...

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
