2003 2500 HD ratio vs. mileage

Would a rear end ratio change from 4:10 to 3:73 make a noticeable improvement in fuel mileage? I am currently getting 10 mpg with my 6.0. My father has an 03 1500 HD four door and is getting 15.

Exactly what rear end is in the 2500HD?

3.73s shouldget better mileage. But I don't know how much

I think all motors exempt the Duramax can have either ratio. Duramax is only 3.73

With the 6.0 you can only get the 4.10.... Your only getting 10 MPG... You hamer on that thing or do a lot of city driving? I get 14 with a CC long box 2500HD...

What you will save in milage, isnt worth the $$$$$ spent on a gear swap. if anything, talk to Lyndon at Westers Garage and get a 87 Octane Maximun Economy tune. You will pick up 4-5 mpg for $500.

You don't mention if that's loaded or empty. My 03 2500HD ext-cab gets 20MPG empty and 12.5MPG pulling a 4-ton 5th wheel. If you're getting that mileage empty, then something is farkled up.

4-5 MPG?? With the webster... That seems a little high to me.. I thought it was more like maybe 1-2 mpg... Has anyone put one of these in their 6.0 yet? I am thinking of doing it this coming spring with the tax return... :D

My 1500HD w/3.73s gets 13mpg to 16mpg when not towing. I don't check it towing since I usually tow 20 - 30 miles one way with a boat. The 6.0L sure is fun when you gotta pass someone!

Yeah. I did. That is why I am posting those numbers. Got questions...ask away. I was getting 10-11 at best before the tune. I ordered the MAX hp tune. NOT the economy tune. I am getting a average of 14-14.5 now.

The average MPG for a 6,0 is 10-12. If anyone is getting 18-20 is a odd ball. Not saying it cant happen, just not normal. I didnt buy a truck for mileage. I bought it to drive. And drive I do.

If you get the economy 87 Octane tune, I would not be surprised if you get 17-18 mpg. I really cant say for sure. I just know that with MAX hp tune and 93 Octane, I got antoher 3-4 mpg. Remeber, no matter which one you get, your still going to get a huge performance gain!
