tailgate turmoil

Recommended Posts

:nono: you guys with pick-ups pay close attn: if you haul alot of stuff in your pick-up like atv's with it sitting on the tail gate check your tail gate cables for corrision, i had my honda rancher almost fall out of my truck the other day because both tail gate cables broke right in the middle, the cable looks like it was corroided it has a black wrap around the cable you will need to cut it back to check it. cable material that chevy uses looks like something from china very cheap looking i was really surprised they used such a cheap looking cable material. my truck is a 2001 model, very dangerous situation here!

Ya know I was wondering WTF happened to my dad's GMC.

That happened to his, and we couldn't figure out WTF was going on, because he * NEVER* hauls anything on his tailgate, *EVER*....

What's weird about this is I am ALWAYS using my tailgate to store stuff on, sitting on it, climbing up on it, all kinds of stuff, and mine have been OK so far.

Yeah I'm thinking a recall is in order too, that is *TOTAL* BS...

that's like the ONE thing that hasn't gone wrong with my truck so far *knocks on wood*

Yup, My cables are on the way out too, I just have to get to the Autozone to get some more. You can see the rust right thru the plastic on one of them.

I will say, I enjoyed some of the comments about the quaility of these trucks.. or Lack of. There are some people that post here that either are lucky, or just full of it.

Just my .02 cents..

It seems that some parts they use will last just until the truck is out of warranty.

Upsetting to say the least.

I wish Yote made a good looking truck, I would be interested. I know they are a Jap. owned company, but their trucks are engineered great and all are built by American workers, here in the USA! :withstupid:

Guys...Do a search here on this issue.

The 99-2000 cables weren't sealed properly allowing water to corode the cables inside the casing. The GM replacement cables are sealed and work fine.

$19.00 from your GM dealer, installed in 5 minutes :nono::withstupid:

The same thing happened to the Bronco I had for many years. We came to the following conclusion.

When it rains or you wash your vehicle, water gets down inside the cable under the wrap (oiver time). As there is no way for it to drain, it sits there and rusts the cable through. The humidity in Houston didn't help matters any.

This happened when we were loading a friends Bike into the back. Left a nice dent. I am jsut glad we didn't drop the Harley :withstupid:

cheers

That would suck to have the tailgate slam into the bumper and put a huge dent in it.

:nono: Wouldn't hurt me.....I have Pro-tec :fume:

Now, what sucks is.....Leaving a $100 pair of sunglasses on the bumper, and dropping the tailgate on them. :withstupid:
