Westers PCM

Need some help guys...

I bought a HPP III for my 99 Checy truck. I wanted it mainly to correct the speedo for the 35" tires. When I bought the truck the prevous owner thought the PCM had been recalibrated for 33" tires but not 35". When I hooked up the programmer it said "your clibration not found". I called HP and they said the PCM has been modified and I need to take it to a dealer to have it put back to the stock program so I can use the HHP.

However I dont want to do this if the PCM has been customized so I'm wondering how do you tell if someone has installed a westers or other aftermarket program??? I looked at the PCM and it looks to be stock...with a white sticker on the back with the part # etc.

Help?

Well, you wont be able to tell that by looking at it, because what Lyndon Wester does is he will take the stock module and reprogram it, so the outside doesnt change. Even your dealer's reader will not be able to detect if the PCM has been modified because Lyndon programs it the same, so the "language" of the information is the same,but he changes the parameters of the program. Although, your dealer can re-flash the PCM and you will most likely cure the problem that way.

If its been programmed by Westers you can tell. It will have a black label on the side of it that has gold lettering saying Westers Garage. It's on the left side so you can see it without taking anything apart. That's what mine has anyway, I just went out and looked at it.

Unfortunatly some of Wester's earlier PCM's didn't have the sticker. He started the stickers about 6 months ago. I would suggest you call Wester's and give him your VIN. He can look it up and see if he ever wrote a program for your truck.
