99 silverado driveline noise

Well, I recently picked up grandpa's old truck. It's a 99 1500 2wd, 5.3 4l60 truck with 82k on it. I had a strange drivetrain noise that ended up (we thought) being ujoints and support bearing. Had those replaced, however the noise is still there. Only real description is something metal banging around against something (almost sounds like a 22 going off). It does seem to be a rotational type noise as well. There doesn't seem to really be any predictable time it happens, however I dont want to break anything by continuing to drive it while it's doing this. Anyone dealt with this or something similar?

I am assuming that you have 4 wheel disc brakes.  Check your parking brakes to make sure something is not amis.  Remove the caliper and caliper bracket, then pull the rotor with integral parking brake drum hat off to inspect the parking brake shoe and hardware.  If all is OK there, then I would jack up the front end, secure it on jack stands and inspect the front brakes and wheel hub assemblies.

Good luck!
