Rear differential

I have a 2008 Silverado 1500 2x4.. what year model rear differential will swap in

Anything from the same body style. So 2007.5 to 2013 for the GMT-900 platform.

 

You need to make sure the gear ratio's match as to not cause issues with the calibration in the computer.

Can the computer not be retuned to accept a lower gear ratio?

Yes it can be.

 

He just made it sound like he wanted a straight swap, so if he didn't have a tuner or someone to do the tune it would need to be a matching gear ratio.

I have a tuner so calibration is not a problem..the problem is they changed up on the brakes and so the salvage yards want $1200 for my yr range.

Yours should have drum brakes right?
