99-02 Compass/Temp going crazy today?

This morning my Compass/Temp on the rearview mirror kept reseting iteself, basically every possible section of the window would light up, then go back to the temperature. I thought about it for a moment and decided I couldn't figure out a reason it should be happening, then quickly dismissed the thought.

 

I have had this problem a few times during the last 2 years, but only when in a large thunderstorm. I was reading some news articles later on, particulary one about the Monster Space Storm. So I am attributing the behaviour of my compass to that, just wondered if anyone else saw the same thing? for the record I am in upstate NY

 

Not to leave out you 03 and 04 guys, but I am not sure what you got in those trucks (besides alot of goodies that GM should have been put in mine! )

I had the same thing happen during a heavy rain fall. I am not sure where the sensors are at but every thing dried out and it works fine now. We don't get a lot of heavy rain storms up here.

Now that you mention it, it was raining pretty hard this morning...

The space storm theory is a good one, because it is a magnetic particle storm or something like that. I guess it started around 1AM this morning.

 

Have you tried driving around in circles three times to recalibrate your system?

FWIW the sensor is located behind the grill adjacent to the DS headlamp on the 02's
