How to open hood, cable broke, 2000 jimmy

My hood release cable seems to not be functioning. I need to jump start my battery, so this is a big problem right now. I have seen a few youtube videos - one using a coat hanger, another where the guy reaches through his grill to manually grab the cable. Neither of these seem possible with this vehicle. The 2nd method is a no go as his truck must not be the same year/model. The 1st method...well maybe I just haven't spent enough time fishing around with the coat hanger. Is there some easier way that the pros handle this situation? Is there a special tool for this task? I had just started looking at new trucks, but need this to get me by in the meantime (and these are definitely uncertain times lately! ). Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Where did the cable break?  If it broke in the cab, try cutting the sheath until you can get to the remaining part and pull it using visegrips.

If it's broken in the engine compartment, I don't know what a good, non-destructive way to do it for your truck.
