Parts in towing package.

Maybe someone here can help me. I'm trying to determine what parts are involved in the different towing packages. I bought my wife a 2001 GMC Tahoe with a better towing and handling package. I noticed this weekend that it sets higher than my 1999 1/2 GMC Sierra. Is this just becuase of different springs, or is there more involved??

Generally speaking the towing package includes:

Z85 Heavy Duty shocks

Class III Hitch platform

7-Pin Wiring harness

Transmission Cooler

I think that's all there is, but I may be missing something.

If the Tahoe is a Z71, then it will have even more under it, including 17" wheels.

It is possible that your truck and the 'hoe don't have the same size rubber under them.... Your truck probably has 265's, but the stock tire (non-Z71) is a 245/75/16. The Hoe most likely has 265's on it...

Just want to make sure we aren't overlooking the obvious....BOTH vehicles are either 4wd or 2wd right? If not, the 4wd sits higher. Again, I know it's obvious...just thought I'd throw it out there.

You did mean "Tahoe" right.... LOL

Both trucks are 2wd, and I just had new tires put on both of them and they are the exact same size.

The tahoe has torsion bars, and your GMC has springs..... That could be it?

Also keep in mind that the truck is a couple years older than the Tahoe. The older truck would tend to settle more especially if the rear springs have been streched from loads and from natural settling with age. The Tahoe also has coil springs on the rear end instead of leafs as on the Sierra.
