Will new wheels fit older body style?

Just wondering if anyone has put the newer body style 16x7 aluminum wheels on a classic body style 6 lug truck (pre-'99 new body style)?

I thought I seen on the net that a few people have but them on the '90's body style trucks, but not 100% sure. A guy at a tire shop told me they would only fit on new body style trucks though. He said they would rub. I know 15 inch wheels won't work on the new trucks, but I never heard of that with the old body style. Also, how far back will the newer wheels fit? For example, will the new wheels fit a '94 4x4? Does anyone have a pic so I can prove a piont?

And one last thing, what year did GM start using 6 lugs, instead of 5 lugs, on 2WD's?

My parents have the stock wheels from my '00 Z71 on their '98 Z71. I have seen this alot. I'm not for sure but I think the older trucks are the same. On the other hand, I've heard that older style wheels don't work on the newer trucks because they are not hub centric.

Just saw yesterday a 96+ Z71 RC longbed with 2002 Suburban/Tahoe Z71 17" wheels. Looked real nice. Any of the NBS wheels seem to dress up the OBS's

92+ 4WD 6 lug can use any of the NBS 6 lug wheels.

Supposedly the 88+ 4WD 6 lug trucks too, but I'm not completely sure.

The NBS pattern is 6 on 5.5" with 5" backspacing

Lots of OBS trucks here with NBS wheels. But OBS wheels will not fit NBS trucks. I just assumed they would since I had my NBS wheels on my dads OBS. Long story short, I went up a tire size and he went down a size so we just traded spare tires and wheels. Well one day the urge hit me to see what an OBS wheel would look like on my NBS and to my surprise it wouldnt fit!!!! I just tried it on the rear, the bolts would line up but the wheel wouldnt go on because of the brake caliper! I assume all OBS have drum brakes? I carried around that OBS wheel for a spare for about 10,000 miles without knowing I didnt really have a spare because it wouldnt fit!

The NBS 6-lug wheels will fit 88-up 4x4 trucks and 92-up SUVs.

6-lug on 2wd started in 99 on the new body trucks. Interestingly enough 2wds had 6-lug pre-71.

OBS wheels will not fit on NBS style trucks, as someone mentioned before the rear brake calpier mount contacts the wheel.

Personally I don't think the NBS wheels look that great on OBS trucks. The new 17" wheels would probably look good, but not the 99-02 16". Especially not the 00-03 Suburban wheels  . Of course that's just my opinion.

I've noticed that the 67-72 gen had 6lug 2WD (SAE threads most likely). Same with a few 66 and older. I would think the basic Z71 16" would look B..A.. on a stock 66 2WD long bed. I can't see it that good on the 67-72 gen nor the 73-87 gen.

The wheels won't fit because of the back spacing on a 2wd 67-70. 71 and 72 2wd have 5-lug wheels 70-98.

Also 70-87 4x4s have a bigger center hub, so the wheels won't fit them either.
