what years of drive shafts fit a 2000 ext cab short bed silverado 1500 and

I had my rear u joint go bad after 20 years and had the drive shaft come off, it dragged right where the clips go and wore more metal off than can hold a clip now.  A guy wants to sell me a used one but says it is from a 2002.  The u joint that is on it does not fit my rear axle connection, it is a size too big.  I can only find one u joint that fits, a moog 459.  It only comes with 2 clips however.  The one on the 2002 shaft also has no clips but what keeps them from coming off over time other than the torque of the bolts holding the u clamps on? I am pretty sure my old one had interior c clamps but they disappeared on the highway.
