Parking Brake Adjustment help

How does one tighten the parking brake on a 2002 Z71? I found the cable and can only assume the nut just behind the extra cab (drivers side) is the one you turn in order to do this.

Your help is always appreciated.

PARKING BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT (15 SERIES) (HELM MANUAL) (1999)

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

2. Remove tire and wheel.

3. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly.

4. Relieve tension on the park brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.

5. Remove parking bake cable from lever.

6. Remove the rotor.

7. Remove axle shaft.

8. Turn the adjustment screw to the fully home position in the notched adjustment nut.

9. Remove the park brake shoe assembly by sliding the shoe towards the retaining spring until the shoe is disengaged from the spring.

Good luck!

Check with your dealer, I doubt you have to tighten it. It's calibrated to feel like it's not tight, so girlfriends and wives can use it, I guess. It will lock solid, mine does, however feels like it's loose. Get on a hill and check it out, I had to prove it to myself before I believed it. You will be able to tell as torque lock or tranny resistance will be there if you roll into tranny brake mode. Mine was rock solid.

Yeah Mr Goodwrench has repeatedly told me it's called something like Easy-adjust. Mine has also always gone to the floor with seemingly little resistance yet holds fine and has passed inspections (so far). BUT, that said, my high-perf/sae certified mechanic says the parking brake is not working correctly and that the shoe needs to be replaced with the new modified part to keep it from riding against the inner drum thus possibly causing enough damage to require an expensive whole rotor assembly replacement in the future (if not now already, he did not have time to disassemble it yesterday due to holiday commitments).

In fact I was just going to new-post on this very subject today but will try to camp on to this thread since it's similar (boot me off it if I need to create a new one  ). I only have 30K miles on my 01 Tahoe, and I have only used the parking brake like 6x each of 3yrs, so lets say about 20x total. Is it even conceivable that the parking brake shoe needs to be replaced, even if just for the new modified/improved part? They already warned me the rotor could be damaged and could possibly need to be replaced with the old shoe part, since they have already seen same on many other nbs gm trucks.

Just yesterday I had my brakes checked (at a dealership, '99 Silverado) during a routine oil change. $20 oil change turned into a $1k brake job, replacing rear service brake pads, parking brake pads, and complete rear rotor assemblies.

And, then, while driving in to work after that experience, I had the driver's side rear wheel lock up. Had to have the truck towed (flat bed) back to the dealership an hour after they worked on it. They said the parking brake had engaged itself and they would need to order new parts for it. For now they just disconnected it completely.

Not too happy about this one...
