Fuel Gauge

Anyone know a easy way to find out why a fuel gauge dont register right..lol..registers about 2 inches past full all the time

Could be the sending unit.

 

Or could just be a bad gauge.

sounds screwy to me try the sending unit .

Could be the sending unit or the gauge. I had a Blazer that read incorrectly. The dealer said sending unit and replaced it. Turns out it was the gauge. He put in a used one from another vehicle and it worked. Didn't charge me for the parts and labor on the sending unit (which was nice) and said it wasn't worth undoing the sending unit install.

 

Can you get ahold of another gauge and plug it in to compare?

Well i checked a few things today on it..The truck had dual tanks on it and my brother in law decided to remove one tank...So i got one of those haynes repair manuals to look at some wiring diagrams so i could by pass the tank swiitch and maybe find other info in the book also..Something else i have been wandering about was the fuel pressure on this thing.I had seen a couple diff specs on what it should be.The repair manual i got says big block should be 26 to 32 psi...I checked it once then after i removed the tank tried the other pump that was in the other tank,both are about 15psi...i checked the sending unit also while i had it out..hooked up ohms meter and when i moved the float no change...Well i said what the heck ,took the sending unit apart and sanded the contacts and put it back together and ohms changed as i moved the float..Stuck tank back under the truck and did a temp hook-up of the ground and the plug for the sending unit but gauge still not working Guess i will check a guy to see if he has a spare gauge i can try bfore buying one.. still wander about that fuel pressure though..now is the time to put in a new pump if its weak...but would be odd that both pumps weak and have the same pressure...but book does say --V6 & small block V8 =9 to 13 psi......7.4L V8 = 26 to 32 psi
