Is the 6 speed a T56?

I am looking into getting an 04 Chevy 3/4 ton truck with the 8.1 litre V8. I find myself wondering if the 6 speed manual transmission is a T56, or some other?

I think its a ZF6 or something like that.

 

The t56 is a car tranny.

It's a ZF S6-650.

 

The T-56 is a close ratio 4 speed + 2 overdrive gears.

 

The ZF S6-650 has a "granny" low gear like an old truck 4 speed and an overdrive 6th.

 

That's why the ZF's shift pattern has 1st in the lower left corner . . you usually start in 2nd and shift it like a 5 speed, using only the top 5 ratios.
