I own an 1987 Silverado K10 with a 208 transfer case and a 350 i want a manual tranny for it but i dont know the names of the manual trannys and which one would be best for good gas mileage yet off road capable.

The best trans you could use would be the nv4500 5 speed. It's got a deep first gear and an overdrive. The problem is they didn't start using them until the newer years and never used them in that body style. Setting up the clutch could be tricky.

 

As far as using a trans from a similar year, you will have a choice. The sm465 is a 4 speed trans with an unsicronized first gear. It is a strong trans, but it has no overdrive. There is another 4 speed but I can't remember the name. It has no granny gear but does have an overdrive. The only other thing I know about them is it doesn't take a lot to break them.
