Ok,

When I cared about what I wore, I don't remember an article of clothing costing more than maybe $20 - $30. Recently I overheard the name "Von Dutch" as being the newest in the trendy clothing line. I wandered out to their site, and what did I see?

The above hat costs $85US. That isn't a typo. Eighty Five Dollars. If I'm not mistaken, its just a mesh hat, right? I've got a few John Deere hats just like it that I got for free. Why are kids paying upwards of $100 for this trash? I don't get it. They also have on their website, if you're interested, $275 pants, and $93 shirts. Garbage, I tell ya.

I agree w/ you, I don't think I would pay money for or wear a mesh trucker hat. I dunno if you've ever been in Abercrombie and Fitch but there prices are horrible too.

I do a lot of my shopping at American Eagle which is pretty reasonable and I usually just catch the sales and snag everything for about 50 percent off. I went there the other day and got a pair of khakis, three shirts, a jacket (i'm talking a real nice heavy jacket) for about 65 bucks. Can't complain about that and you couldn't even buy that hat for that much.

You know that these kids aren't buying these for themselves, there parents are forking over insane amounts of money for them. Just spoiled rich kids not learning the value of a dollar.

HA....you guys need to come where I live....people dress up to go grocery shopping. I swear I have seen girls out in clubbing clothes with a cart full of food. Now I'm not busting on south florida, because it is VERY easy on the eyes.

That's the only thing I like about down here....the hot chicks in tight pants at the grocery store, and the fact that I can wear shorts in January.

If some one can explain the difference between$100 guess jeans, and the $30 carhart jeans, lemme have it

One is a good quality pair of pants and the other has a trendy label on it.

What I don't get is when I go shopping w/ my girlfriend at the same store the pants she gets cost more than the ones I get. I mean, I'm bigger than her and my pants have probably twice the amount of material. Logicallly I would think that her pants would be cheaper. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention in economics 101.

:P I even got a hat there once for $3

Whats funny is that the people wearing the Von Dutch stuff probably have never even seen the eyeball with wings.

I haven't found a 30 dollar pair of Carhart Jeans that last yet.. $50 levi's is where it's at :P

Most of Von Dutch's clothing has gotten costlier because of Ashton Kutcher and all the skate board guys wearing it.

I know what cha mean man .

I can get three times as much clothes as my g/f gets for the same price for some reason she likes that stuff that costs 80 bucks for a shirt . :P

Lynchburg Jobbing house....in lynchburg va...that was back in 2001, they might be more expensive now....people want to look trendy....like they're a carpenter or something. Me..I buy em because they come in my size. You know how hard it is to find a 36inch inseam (that doesn't come with a 50 inch waist)...how come in normal stores you either find clothes for people that are short and skinny, or really tall and fat??? I don't think making a pair of jeans with a 38 waist and 36 inseam is to difficult. Once in a while you can find them in old navy, but eveything i always seem to find is 46-34....or 28-36....now come on...if you have a 28 inch waist and 36 inch inseam you gotta eat a steak once in a while man....I'm not gonna even start with shoes....I wear a 17.....unless I want to wear the newest Air "insert basketball star name here" shoe....I gotta order new balance....it is funny though...walking into a shoe store and asking for a 17.....they measure my foot, tell me I'm a 15 and bring me shoes I could never dream of wearing....I havn't worn a 15 since I was 15.

Funny story though, when I was in high school, I was acting like a dick in class, and the teacher told me to act my age not my shoesize....LOL....I told her I was....needless to say....I got to stay after class and have a talk.

:P I like these new smilies

I feel your pain.

I take a 34x36 pant and can't find squat ever. I only take a 14 in shoes, but that's hard to find too. I'm just past the cutoff point of "normal" sized people I guess so I get shafted.

My other big complaint is shirts. I've noticed that they don't seem to get longer w/ increased size, they just get wider. I take a medium or a large (even though I'm 6'4" and 200 pounds) because I'm not really fat, but the sleeves and even the shirt itself isn't long enough. Just frustrating, I really hate going shopping becaus nothing I like ever fits right.

Posted

HELL YES...I hate shirts...If i get a XL.....they fit till I wash them, then they are like half shirts. PITA....sometimes I can find "tall" shirts that are longer, and they're great, but that's few and far between

Posted

most of the "tall" shirts I ever find at stores like kohls are for people who are 8' tall it seems. man, i wish stores would cater to more people. i mean, a 36" inseam can not be that uncommon that stores shouldn't carry them in stock. I actually settle for a 36 which is actually a little shorter than I would like, but trying to find a 37 or 38 would be dang near impossible.

Apparently you guys have lost touch with today's youth.

These kids are getting this crap cause they see their idols wearing it.

I'm willing to bet if Ashton Kutcher, or Justin Timberlake smeared feces all over themselves, and called it a fahsion, guess what these kids will be doing?

The parents will probably be relieved! I can see it now.

Dad: "Honey, I've got GREAT news!"

Mom: "HOORAY! You got little Johhny to stop following fashion fads?"

Dad: "No, Johhny's outside smearing dog-crap all over himself, but I just saved us a TON of money by switching to GEICO! WHOO HOO!"

:P

That was great. I think you should email that suggestion to Geico for the next commercial. You could change it up a bit for an "I lowered my cholesterol" commercial too.

And as for being like their idols, dang kids are all sheep. they need to be more original.

Yeah...people are pretty f**king stupid. I wear Carhart stuff and stuff from Sears. Free stuff too. I really see no point in buying $90 jeans made to look dirty. How about buying a $40 pair of new looking jeans and making them dirty? Does a dusting of dirt cost $50 now?

Edit...

d**n, I just went to their site...WTF is wrong with people? They have work shirts for $93! I have a really good one that cost $20! $73 to have "Von Dutch" over one pocket. That is insane.

    • I tried tapping it.  This might sound like a dumb question, you should feel vibration or some type of noise when it turns on? Can someone please verify? Thank you all!
    • I feel better now for my own view point and actions or lack there of towards the dealership service theme reading your post and others. GM corporate is who offers the two free oil changes on the HD trucks and I bought my truck in Feb of 2025 and those oil change offers run out within 2 years I believe and I highly doubt I will be using either one of them. I had asked if I could officially give those free services to another customer ( a friend ) and they said no, its all a GM corporate thing based on the vehicle in question. What that service advisor did however was go into a little story about how such and such customer was denied engine warranty because he had done his own oil changes because then they are not documented ... you see where that goes and so an employee playing the game of scaring the customer into having the service work done there most certainly triggered my thought process. At a later date I did talk to the person who handles warranty claims at the dealership and she said to be sure to document the oil changes and keep receipts for the oil and filter ( coped the receipts from cases of Mobil oil and case of filters I bought from them ) and the vehicles VIN, the date of service, mileage etc and staple that together as a record I would give them if that was ever needed and I keep my own log book for services for each vehicle as well. Oh and about 8 months after I bought the truck the dealer starts calling me to offer a maintenance service since they haven't seen my vehicle show up on their system ... for the mere fee of 300.00 Canadian to change the oil and rotate the tires and a few other minor checks and I declined the offer, I get the call again a couple of months later for the same thing and she could tell I was not interested and she asked if they should take my name off the call list and I said yes, do that !.    By the way did you happen to keep your factory oil filter to open it up and see the surprises inside as I expect some will show up as per the odd little sliver of metal shaving and particles that the filter does trap along with bits of grey silicone sealer that come off of the inside edge of mating surfaces. I have cut open every filter so far on my truck although few miles but have changed the oil often and the second filter was vastly better with very little of anything, that first filter was the unsettling one as I expected it would be.
    • I get why they do this…but man…not ideal. I only extract on inboard boat engines because the drains are buried and even then I hate it because it’s easy to leave a quart behind with that method.   They should market it as an “oil refresh” not oil change!
    • I only get oil changed where I can watch. Valvoline pulls through the dipstick into a see thru glass. When done they show me the dipstick. About the only way they can mess up is using the wrong oil. But that secret wouldn’t stay secret long. Honda uses TQ wrenches on everything. You can watch through a plate glass window. Discount tires does that with tires. Trust but verify.
    • I would not argue that with you. It would be pointless to argue against the truth and you speak the truth.    My question and in fact the entire point of this thread is an exploration into the levers of wear which happens no matter how well we maintain our powertrains.    Some of these levers we exert a good deal of influence over which can and do result is lower wear, longer powertrain life. Some others we are sort of stuck with.    An engine is typically done when the ring to bore seal no longer is able to do the job effectively. Normally the first thing to go in a engine otherwise well maintained and adult driven is this seal.    Looking into the means, methods, products and attitudes that influence the rate of wear seems a worthwhile inquiry to me.
