Master cylinder

Because of an ongoing, intermittent brake failure problem I feel the need to replace the master cylinder on my $45,000 03 Tahoe. Chevy refuses to cover it under warranty though the truck only has 5500 miles on itand is less than a year old(imagine that). As usual their attitude is that if it isn't throwing codes and if during the minimal time they have driven the truck the problem hasn't surfaced then there is no problem. My wife refuses to ride in or drive the vehicle and there are times I am edging such as in heavy traffic or in neighborhoods with kids and dogs. But overall I like the truck and want to keep it if possible. I am basically going to have someone rebuild the whole brake system at my expense the alternative is getting rid of the truck and buying a Toyota or Lexus etc. I would like to start by replacing the m/c with a top of the line unit and need some suggestions on who makes the best and where can I get one. I have already ordered Russell SS lines and ATE super blue fluid and I'm looking at the Baer Eradispeed + kit.

Have you tried GM Customer Assistance ? Have you tried another dealer? I highly recommend you try these two avenues first. You shouldnt have to pay for repairs that arent your fault. Some dealers only care about selling but fixing and keeping the buyer happy is what its all about. My dealer does everything they can and have been better than expected. The return has been i bought a 1999 Corvette,2001 Corvette,2001 Silverado, 2004 Silverado & a 2004 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged. They treated me like a king when i bought my 99 Corvette and i keep coming back and the service is excelent. :P

I have been that route with little success either with this problem or the aformentioned EGR problem. I did manage to get a refund of the money I paid to get my CC fixed on the Tahoe. It took Chevy 5 days to figure out the problem and then they made me pay $430 to get my truck back. After a call to the CA people My local dealer admitted it was a warranty problem and refunded my money, but you shouldn't have to go to that extreme to get decent service. I love my truck and have been a loyal GM customer since I purchased my first car, a 68 LeMans, 30 years ago but GM dealer service makes it very tough to remain one. My sister owns a BMW and they walk on water for her, and my neighbor owns a Lexus and gets treated even better on the rare ocassion he needs service. My wife even gets better service from her Toyota dealer, though I have heard horror stories about Toy dealer service. GM needs to realize that sales is only have the equation, service is just as important.

It sounds like you have what would be catagorized as a unique problem. I know stealers can be ****holes, but I think if it were a more mainstram type of prob they would be somewhat more forthcomming. I had a similar problem a few years ago, and it can be quite frustrating. Maybe arbitration?

Good Luck

WHOA!!! FRW!!!

DO NOT lay a single wrench on that truck. DO NOT!!! I mean it! They will try and void your warranty if you start putting your own parts on that vehicle! Then you are totally stuck with the truck.

Sounds like you have a true intermittent problem. Depending on how many times you have returned to your dealer, I would HIGHLY suggest reading up on Lemon Law procedures for your state.

If your dealer cannot fix your truck in a certain number of attempts, you may get another Tahoe!!

Read up on your lemon laws, LET THE SERVICE DEPT DO ALL THE WORK, don't lay a wrench on that thing, and BE SMART ABOUT THIS SITUATION. BRAKES ARE NOT AN ISSUE TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY!!!
