K&N Oil filters

Just saw K&N oil filters at the local Checkers for the first time.

Are they any better then the Fram double guard? (which I currenty use)

yea they are from what i've seen.

at the place when i first bought mine about 2 yrs ago, they had this lil expirement thing to prove it. Turned on air in this tube and put stock filter over it, and a ball on the other end. If air was flowing, you would see the ball rise. well it hardly even went up. sorta jumped a couple times. Then, he replaced it with the K&N and the ball pinged to the top of the tube. I doubt they'll help you that much, maybe 1 or 2hp if that. Go for an air intake where you get the whole tube and new filter.

those are probably top intakes on the market in my opinion.

The K&N oil filter is a really good flowing filter. Less restictive than most filters out there and has a great filter media. I would only use it if you plan on running synthetic oil and changing you oil and filter out around 5 to 6k.

Other wise I would stay with a regular oil filter like AC, Wix and so on. I'm not a fan of Fram from what I have seen inside it. I have cut a few open and not thrilled with its construction. They use carboard end caps. Not a good thing in my opinion. I have also seen a few with the filter media crushed inside.

There are probably a ton of individuals out there that run nothing but Fram with great results. But with all the other choices out there I would rather run one of them.

Regular 3k oil and filter changes you can't go wrong. If you run synthetic oil then you can extend that oil change out much longer. That is when you would want to run a Mobil 1, K&N or AMSOIL oil filter. They are constructed to last longer and hold more contaminants.

Everyone thinks I'm crazy but I change my oil filter every six months and the oil and filter once a year. So far my oil analysis from the lab have come back great. I currently have 62k on the truck and all the wear metals are well within average. I just can't see changing oil that is still in great shape. Not to mention I would be under my truck more than I can afford. Once a year changes gives me more time with the family.
