Light switch spring

Has anyone torn into the switch and removed the spring that returns the dial to "auto"? Would rather I make the default to be "off". It feels like there is a detent for "off", just not strong enough to overcome the default "auto" detent.

 

If not, I will purchase a new switch and tear into it and see how it works and report back.
