How much noise from front diff?

they're all different. Mine makes an almost inaudible noise like a very soft high pitched whine. I have to turn off the radio and HVAC and really listen for it in 4WD. Otherwise no noise.

Is your's really LOUD like to the point where you're worried??

When in AutoTrack (automatic 4x4), if the radio or the heater fan is on, I can't hear it. If they're not on, I can, but just a little bit.

IN 4x4 high, there is more noise. I can hear it most of the time, and also I can sorta "feel" it in the steering.

But all that is normal in 4x4 trucks.

My theory is that these trucks are so quiet most of the time that when we do something a little different, like put it in 4x4, the new noise level is kinda "dramatic," because we get used to quiet cabs. So probably 98% of the time, everything is normal.

A transfer case or front diff. that's REALLY on its way south will soon make a tremendous racket. When that happens, you won't have to post on this forum to know something is out of sorts.

Exactly how mine is.

Mine too. You should hear a quiet whine and that's about it.

Cool. I'm much relieved. :jester:

Mine is like a mild hum and I can barely feel it through the floor. I can't hear it when the radio and heat are blowing.

I wanted to check because my last 4x4 was an 86 blazer and I had some noise from the xfer case but nothing from the front. However, it's a totally different setup so I wanted to be sure.

Many thanks!

I too was surprised how loud my manual TC is on my 03 1500. In the last 10 years, I have had manual TC in a Ford and a Mitsubishi. This is definately the loudest, but since it just sounds like drive train noise I probably won't complain to the dealer. Please keep us current if you find anything.
