Exhaust for V6

Recommended Posts

i just got a silverado 1500 4.3L v6....i know, but it's all the budget allowed. anyhow, i want to change the exhaust. my question is what size inlet and outlet should i get? im afraid that if i get too large of an inlet/outlet that i will lose power. thanks for the info.

Are you putting on headers? And are you planing on running a true dual exhaust all the way back or running a single inlet muffler w/ dual outlet. My self i would run a single 2.5 or a single inlet muffler with w/ dual 2.25 pipes out the rear. If you go to big you will not have any low end torque. But thats just my opinion.

^thanks man, that's pretty much what my friends told me. i'm just trying to get as many peoples' opinons that i can. no, im not going to put on headers just yet. also, im not going to do true duals, just a single inlet/dual outlet.

I had a 93 model with a 4.3 in it, the best setup i ever had on it was a flowmaster with a 2.5 inlet and two 2.25 outlets. It also had no converter. It gave it alot of low and mid range grunt, but that engine also did not run high rpms as it was not a vortec, so im not sure if it would have enough top end flow for above 4500 rpm.

Ok, I've got my 91 4.3 ltr, and I've got a Spin Tech pro street 2.5" single system on it. I wouldn't have it any other way. Flowmasters are too "tinny" on a V6, and they just don't give that nice deep rumble. Magnaflow gives a deeper tone, smooth. I wasn't sure how a spin Tech would sound on my blazer at first, but day by day I love it even more. I'm extremely picky about my exhausts. I have to have a nice smooth mellow-deep note. It can't be "tinny", too d**n loud, rough, too deep, etc etc. I'm a fan of most aftermarket manufacturers except for dynomax. But believe me, a Spin Tech is your best bet, it honestly is.

It produces a sound that lopes like a v8 during idle (seriously, I'm not kidding. I've actually had dozens of people ask me if I have a 305 under the hood :seeya: )/ Under moderate town acceleration, its got this sweet ass deep-mellow tone, just a smooth rumble, nice and low. Under hard acceleration, it just SCREAMS. It honestly doesn't have that typical v6 sound to it. It sounds similar to a V8 under hard acceleration sometimes. It's aggressive as hell when you jump on it, smooth and deep when you're just messing around, and there's almost ZERO INTERIOR RESONANCE!!!!! It's a tiny muffler (12" by 4" by 6"), but amasingly it's not too loud! It never drones (and I'm picky about that too lol), it's qwhisper wuiet at freeway speeds (seriously, like stock), but when you wanna jump on it, it's gonna be there!

I honestly wouldn't ever do a Flowmaster on a 4.3 ltr (or almost any v6 again).

I'd do a Magnaflow if I was looking more for performance, but Spin Tec still gives you a great power increase w/ an awesome sound. It's like they say "If it sounds too good to be true.....IT'S A SPIN TECH!"

I'd honestly consider this muffler for an exhaust on your truck. Trust me, YOU WON'T GO WRONG!!!!!

Sounds like i should have tried that spintech on my V6 when i had it, that flowmaster did have alot of drone at certain rpms, do you know what a spintech sounds like on a V8. No resonance would be nice, i am not a fan of it.

I just had my muffler guy bend a new system for me. He sells Spin Tech's too so it all came into play. My friend has a 97 Cherokee w/ a carsound cat and a Spin Tech, it sounds incredible!!!

Anyways, I just had my guy do the exhaust for me, like I said. If the local shops around don't carry Spin Tech, they're pretty cheap off www.gofastparts.com

They have great service, prices are reasonable, and they have a pretty wide selection too. The Pro Street model is what I have on my 4.3. I believe it only comes in a signel out app. since it's only 4" wide, but you could always have it y'd after the muffler, getting the same results. It would be quieter w/ a sportsman street or truck & suv spin tech, but still have an awesome sound. It does take a feww eeks or more to break in fully, but it's worth the wait.

The only time it's loud in the cab is when I'm driving in town and I leave it out of overdrive, cruising at about 35-45. It doesn't drone, it's basically just there.

As for a V8, they sound awesome on basically every GM V8 there is. I've heard them on 4.8's, 305's, 5.3's, older 327's,, like I said on all GM's, and I'm totally impresses with the sound. The local Chevy dealer usually has a Magnaflow system installed when they do custom exhaust on the cars they sell (for noise purposes), but sometimes Gary will install a Spin Tech sportsman street system. They're deep, smooth, aggressive, and just sound grewat all around

www.spintechmufflers is the site, and they have good deals on cat-backs for newer trucks!

Hope I hgelped a few of you!
