Battery light, low voltage

I have a 99 jimmy with 70000kms. It's been running fine until I started it up tonight and the battery light came on and my voltage reading was way low almost in the red . Usually it's right in the middle. I still drove the truck home and it seemed to run fine and I shut it off and started it back up and it started fine but the voltage reading is still low and the battery light is still on. Any ideas?

Sounds like a charging system problem. Get it checked, the truck can only run for a short time on just the battery and then you'll need a battery AND the repair to the charging system.
