Hey folks..

Well I've been on the search for new 2003 Silverado's for quite a while. I've been checking out www.gminsidenews.com and www.gm-trucks.com ever since March when my 2001 Ext Cab LS Sportside was totalled in a freak winter accident.

I've read several posts where 50% of the people hate the new look, and 50% love them. The way I figure it is different strokes for different folks.

Now to be honest, I absolutely hate the look of the Avalanche. Maybe someday it won't be so bad when they deside to paint the ABS body molding.

But anyway, IMO, what's nice about the new Silverado's is the way the front end looks even. Unlike the Avalance, the upper and lower sections of the grill are the same height. It makes a big difference when next seen side by side.

Today, my wife and I stopped at Tom Hesser Chevrolet in Scranton, PA. There we found a couple of trucks hiding in a secondary lot.

I was surprised to see that they had a Victory Red Sportside 1500. I thought at first it was an LS, but there were no badges that indicated so. Also there were no 1500 Stickers to indicate it was a base model. The interior had power windows and locks and the electrochromic rearview mirror. So I'm assuming it was an LS. It did have those nice new crazy everything automatic mirrors. It had the new radio and different power window up and down switches.

I must admit, I was sad to see they didn't change the Sportside box to match the front of the truck. As my wife put it, the front says "Errrr.." and the back says "Weeee!"  :withstupid:

But I guess everything takes time.

This time around, I think I'm going to get a two-tone Red/Gold or Green/Silver Fleetside 1500 LT. The truck has absolutely everything. I really don't want leather, but I guess you can't get the Bose Sound System and On-Star if you don't get the LT. (According to the dealers I talked to so far.)

Well, I guess that's all I have to say. This is my first post here. I want to thank you guys for such an awesome web site.

Attached is a quickly made web site that holds pictures from todays travels. Please forgive the crappy quality of the pictures. My digital camera sucks!

Notice how they had the new truck parked right into a car... Some people are absolutely amazing..

Thanks for the pics.  I am trying to order a truck and am waiting on option code numbers for the wheels. The computer only shows 2002 wheels, which I was not in favor of.

The wheels on the red truck look pretty good. Was it a 4x4?  I saw these wheels-- click here on a 2003 GMC that was a 2WD and liked them, too. I am looking for ease of cleaning but, a 5 or 6 spoke design.

Yeh, the truck was four wheel drive. It's kind of funny because all the autotrac buttons now have pictures on them.

The wheels looked the same as on my previous truck, so I'm figuring they were just the standard 1500 aluminum wheels.

Also, I did notice the backs on all the 2003 mirrors I saw were black and not chrome. So far I've seen six different trucks.

Weird.

Oh yeh, another thing about this sportside is, I thought all the plastic door molding was color-keyed for 2003. Notice the HD was white with a chrome insert. The standard GM 2003 Silverado picture (Red Ext Cab) has red molding with a chrome insert. This one has black with a chrome insert. Weird.

Different for different people is RIGHT... that front end I have not heard a person yet that likes it other than you.  Wow... it is rough!!!

    • Common Sense Assembly   Your driveline is forgiving of the occasional mistake. It will even often forgive the random serious blunder. But it will not forgive a continuous bad habit.      What? Not everything needs to be a five thousand word essay.
    • We drove about 15 minute east today to visit a friend and saw a steep increase in price in the same county. About 50 cents a gallon steepper.
    • Sure about that? A degree wheel and a dial indicator would lower your degree of assurance in that statement. 😉    It why we have offset keys and dialable timing sprockets. Just say'n.... I've built a few and have never seen one "On the money".
    • I will admit I haven't experimented much with pressure drops beyond the numbers I put in and part of that is that the numbers I used are fairly low and then found out it would trigger regardless at that 35 psi. Having said that I had tried before had changed the placard pressures and being that I have a 1 ton set to 80 on the placard for the rear I believe it triggered close to 60, the front I don't recall now for sure but thought maybe it could get close to 45 from that factory 60 placard pressure. So I never did figure out if it was a number of psi from placard pressure to the alarm or a percentage of the total placard number as some figured it was like a 25% drop from placard pressure would trigger it. So as to try and answer your question, I believe I set the placard pressure on the front to 47 or so and while I run the front tires at 40, they have dipped below that some if its colder and I haven't put "winter air" in yet and never once have had the front alarm go off. I would say that the answer your looking for is no, that if you set your placard pressure to 45, you have a certain amount of room to drop below that pressure before the alarm will go off.    The pressures you decide to run in your truck, that ends up being what makes sense to you based on what your carrying in your truck or if towing, then have to bump them back up to something that will carry the load in the rear and the fronts typically left at the same pressure. It all comes down to that chart I put the link to and using an accurate roadside scale to be your guide, both unloaded and then loaded to know your minimum safe pressures.    I just wish GM would allow a person to change the readings for the tire pressures to the English system of pounds as I have to look at that goofy metric reading that will never ever jive in my head and will go over and change it just to figure out what they are if need be and then change it back.
    • That part I understand, that the dealer can do it. But I'm not understanding why updates that were available to the truck since it left the factory, or the dealership originally, would not still be available to it without dealer intervention.   I'm thinking along the lines of recalls. They stay available until they are completed, regardless of whether they are in warranty or not, or in the hands of the original owner or not. Why not updates as well, especially since some of those can be safety related also?
