Rear window defogger and glass

I've seen posts about this but I've searched and searched and cannot find the answer to this.

 

Remote started truck, let it run for about 5-6 minutes, got in, drove off and started to smell what smelled like electronics burning, looked in rear view mirror, seen smoke and so I slid the back window open to let the smoke out. I noticed the rear defogger was on, I'm assuming because I had remote started the truck. I turned it off, pulled down a side road to pull over and check what was wrong and before I could stop the window blew.

 

I've called GM and have a claim with them about trying to get it fixed because I found online that there was a recall about this issue but the recall was VIN specific and for mostly Canadian trucks. It's been almost 2 months and everywhere I've read online GM has not fixed this for anyone who was not on the recall. My question is, what's burned in the picture, is that a part of the window itself? In my state my insurance covers windows in full. If I have the window replaced will that fix the damage that is done or is there more to this? Does the whole bottom part of the window with the defogger circuit/contacts in it have to be replaced as well?
