Hey Randy,

Congratulations on the new Tahoe Z-71. It's a gorgeous rig.

We bought a Summit White Tahoe LT about two weeks ago. Like yours, it has absolutely all options except the DVD (no kids). We really wanted the side air bags and the seat heaters, but our dealer only had LTs with them, so we bought an LT. I ordered a set of Z-71 skid plates and they will be installed this week ($109.00 installed), so we'll have the part of the Z-71 that really mattered most to me.

Our deal? MSRP on our loaded Tahoe LT was $46,505. We paid exactly $36,505. A screaming $10,000 off MSRP and $4,843.75 LESS than invoice. Yeah, heck of a value.

Randy, please enjoy your wonderful new rig.

Just bought 2004 Tahoe Z71 a few weeks ago, silver birch, 4.10 gear. MSRP was $45,500, and I paid $36,080 excluding tax. Not bad, but I think I could have done a little better, maybe another grand even. Love the rig ! Had a 99 Yukon. Only downside so far, is reaward visibility when you turn and look back to park, or when passing isn't as good as the last body style. THe C pillars are much wider and the second row headrests are bigger. That's my only negative so far. Although front seats feel a little funny. They are very deeply bucketed which makes them feel narrow. ?????

I traded in a white 99 Yukon SLE w/ 56k on it. It was in "good" condition. I was given wholesale trade-in values (meaning all new vehicle discount are applied rather then them paying more for the trade-in, and then less discounts) from several dealers which all seemed to come in around $12,000, so that is the figure I used to calculate the cash deal price. I'm sure they made some money selling my vehicle too. That's why I think I could have gotten the vehicle for closer to $35,000 possibly. I'll never know now.

Hey Randy - any excuse to get a new truck. Mine was going to need new tires soon, and the cd player was screwing up. It just had to go !

I have another rug rat coming in May. We needed more room than the Envoy could provide. Suspension on the Z71 is so much more responsive than the Envoy. Fit and finish is better and this Tahoe just feels so much tighter and solid. Test drove a Denali and could not feel that much more power at all than the Tahoe. Did not like the suspension on the Denali and I think they skimped on the tires and wheels. Didn't see the value in Stabilitrack. I've always heard that if you can get a diff lock on a 4X4 that is preferred over an open diff. So I bought a Z71 for $6K less than what I could have got the Denali for. Going to get different gauge faces in it. Thats my first mod. Hmm think I'll post another thread.

:) but are you guys figuring in what you had in your trade in also????????

NO, I sold my 1999 Blazer to my neighbor for high KBB -- cash deal.

Then, I bought our 2004 Tahoe LT with a MSRP of $46,505 for $36,505. It was a straight cash deal (I wrote a check) for $10,000 off of MSRP.

That is precisely $4,843.75 less than invoice.

It was an advertised deal, "10 Tahoes at 10K off MSRP." No hassles, do dickering; just write the friggin' check. Oregon has no sales tax and the license (2 years) and title cost me an additional $218.00.

Yeah, they wanted to sell me other rigs, the ones not on sale, and the stupid Northwest Protection Package (I Scotch Guarded the carpets myself). It was no problem buying the Tahoe, once they knew I'd purchase one of the sale rigs or nothing.

I bought a new 2003 Chevy Z-71 LT EC/SB 5.3 Loaded in a similar deal last year. MSRP was $37,205 and I paid $26,288. Just write the check and you are out the door. Hell of a deal and what a fabulous truck.

Being in a cash position is sometimes very handy.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
