Why dont you try just unhooking the battery for a couple of minutes and then start up and drive it. Thats the easy way. Drive it until at operating temp and do some hard acceleration along with city driving. Its always learning.

But if I disconect the battery won't the theft lock on the radio not allow me to start the truck?

No, I believe the theft lock on the radio is related to your VIN on 03 and newer

I just had my 2003 2500 in the shop.

The battery was unhooked because I noticed that the clock was off.

Maybe it is my imagination, but it does not seem to shift or accelerate the same as it did.

I've wondered about this "continually learning" point.

When you unhook the battery it clears all the tables of drivability values. When you start driving it relearns your driving habits in terms of timing & fuel. I never unhook the battery in my stock 01 Corvette and i make changes to the calibrations when i go to the dragstrip. This LS1 A4 runs 12:98 @ 103 mph. If you dont have major changes made like a bigger cam just start driving it.

I disconnected my battery a couple of days ago to reset the ECM after installing a Flowmaster and K&N filter. The only thing I had to recet was the time on the clock. all of my radio presets were still programmed. There was no other issue wit the radio.

It will zero out your oil life monitor also. That why i never unhook the battery i just let it relearn. Takes a little longer but same results. You could pull both PCM fuses and clear the memory with out clearing the oil monitor.

When you disconnect the negative lead, it will wipe out any and all SHORT term stored memory. When you go to restart it, it will not be a problem, just drive it for 15 minutes around the block...romping on it every so often. If you do a PCM upgrade, like Westers Garage, then you are actually replacing the core, with no prior stored long term memory. In this case, your truck will need about 60 miles of driving to begin seeing its data trends, re-learn all the sensors, and begin to store long term data. You stock stereo will lock, but just enter the code you picked out when you bough the truck. Easy as pie

2003 and up use the VIN to secure the Radio so nothing has to be doneas long as the PCM has correct VIN info. Dealer complained about this since if you had a dead battery and had a code in the theftlock it had to go back to the dealer to restore the radio. GM solved the problem.
