Hi folks,

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 with approx 127,000 kms (79,000 miles) and I'm getting a loud hum from the rear end.

My mechanic says its coming from rear driver side and is related to drive axle, not wheel bearing. Says to take it to dealer to see what they can do, as it should never have an issue with that low mileage.

Anyone heard of this issue, TSBs or recalls?

Thanks!

You might get lucky and GM will give you some goodwill for repairing it, but the truck is well out of warranty both in time and mileage, so I wouldn't expect it.

It's not some widespread problem, parts fail, or perhaps the fluid got too low at some time.  Your truck is in the middle section of the bathtub failure curve for it's parts.  While the curve is very low in this part, it's not at zero.

Thanks for the info.

Is it common for GM to offer goodwill for this type of failure?

Also, any thoughts getting this repair with aftermarket parts vs OEM through a dealer?

My mechanic says the bearing he gets are better quality than OEM.

I have no idea, just what I've read online, it seems you are more likely to get it with super-low mileage and the vehicle has aged out of warranty and has some fairly well known issue (such as 5.3 DFM lifter failure), or the truck is just out of warranty

I would not think your truck will get much, if any, kind of goodwill from GM, just because of some random parts failure, as then everyone and their dog will be barking at GM's door to fix any problem their truck has.

I would stick with the well known brands, like spicer, national, IDK if nachi makes them.  IDK what bearings your mechanic can source, more likely to be similar in quality rather than better.
