I was reading an article today about the '05 C6 Vette and the future '06 Z06 Vette. The article was written during an interview with the designer of the new Vette. He said the Z06 which will return in '06 will be well worth the wait, he actually said it a couple times. He also mentioned it will look different from the "base" Vette. Everyone will know it's not the average Vette. Didn't give any details, but said it would be revealed in January of '05. Looks like that 7.0L (427) 500hp Vette is going to become a reality. The car will tip the scales at just over 3000lbs, with new carbon fiber bodyparts. Talk about a Viper killer!:D Maybe with this engine out a year or so, a true SS reg cab truck will make it's way into the market. I wish GM would come out with something to get some competition going between manufacturers! Chris

There's so many rumors floating around now. I'm not going to believe anything until I see it now. There were all these delusions of granduer for the LS2, and it wound up being nothing more than a updated version of the LS1 with new heads.

For the '06 Z06 I've heard stuff like aluminium frame + CF body parts to bring curb weight closer to 2800 lbs. Supercharged 6.0L engine. 6.4L engine. 7.0L engine. 5" wider rear track to accomodate 13" wide tires. Very distinctive body. MSRP anywhere from $60-110k.

As you can see...there's still lots of different ways the car go. I can get excited a little, but I gave up on putting any stock in the internet rumor mill long ago.

I agree Rob, there's ALOT out there about the Z06. Whatever engine winds up in it, I'd imagine it to be at 500hp, which could be done with any of those engines pretty easily. I'm just glad the days of true high performance factory vehicles could be around the corner, like the mid/late 60's, early 70's. I just love the sound of a 450hp DZ302 in 69 Z28, ah, the good old days! (before I was born) And also the fact that GM engineers confirmed a 7.0L engine is being tested right now makes this an exciting time for Vette lovers like me.

"While chief engineer Dave Hill has publicly announced the Z06 version of the next-gen Vette due in 2005 will have 500 hp, his engine team wasn’t sure until recently that they could actually achieve that impressive figure. Sources now say that it will be a case of “nothing beats cubic inches” with 95 extra horses (compared to today’s 405-hp Z06) coming as a result of boring and stroking the next-gen Chevy small-block V8 to 427 cubic inches—7.0 liters. Not since the late-1960s has that magic number of cubes been under a Corvette’s composite hood (though there were some 454s along the way)." Taken from AutoWeek.

Like I said, I'm not puting much into the rumors. But I am pretty confident that 500hp is going to happen. Even though it's probably the strongest rumor, I don't think the famous 427cid will return. There was something said by a GM Powertrain big wig a few months back where he said that the new GENIV engine platform can see 500hp with an insane 8000rpm safe rev limit out of 6.4L. I'd believe that over all these 7.0L rumors. And of course the car will be lighter weight. How much more, we'll just have to see.

    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
    • I'm sure if you went to a junkyard where you go in and pull the part off the truck yourself, not a used part place where they do it for you, you can get that part on it's own.  Depending on if and what else you would be buying, and time of day, they might even just skip over adding it as a item to the bill.
