Fuel Injector cleaner?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever used any type of fuel injector cleaner or octane boost on their 2001+ trucks? I am just wondering because my gas mileage is dropping a little bit, dont know because its still of the winter fuel or what?

Every couple thousand miles I throw some STP fuel injector cleaner in the tank.....I also just cleaned my TB(first time)....it wasn't real bad, but had a little carbon build up around the edges....it seems a tad more responsive now.

You probably have already done this but one of the things that will effect gas milage quickly is the Air Filter. Up north in the winter driving around with all the stuff on the roads that melts the snow and ice your air filter can get dirty very quickly. If you haven't I would check it.

I use Chevron Techron (not the Progard stuff) every 5-6k just before an oil change in everything I own.

Chevron Techron is a good product.

Air filter is not a problem, I have k&N FIPK. So after using fuel injector cleaner have you noticed that much of a increase in throttle response? I just wonder if I should change spark plugs, truck has about 46,000 miles.

There was no noticable difference I could feel after adding the injector cleaner...I guess that's a good thing. They must not have been very dirty. As far as changing the plugs, you'll find all sorts of opinions....I changed mine out at 30K....they were dirty, and gapped wrong. I swapped them with plain old copper plugs. So far so good.

The mechanics I talk to recommend a product called BG44. It's a serious fuel injection system cleaner and only needs to be done every 30-40K. You can get it at NAPA stores, it's not cheap.

I use BG44K every 7,500 miles. I have 52000 miles on my 2000 Silverado. It's an excellent product. It costs about $20 a can. You can tell the difference with this product. I put it in with a full tank of gas. (1500 5.3 Silverado Z71, extended cab). you have to get it from an authorized dealer in your area. Not available in parts stores.

That's what the dealers want you to believe. At least, here in Colorado, you can get it at any NAPA store. In fact, the dealer told me to get it at NAPA. I bought mine there and it was cheaper than what the dealer wanted for it.

Hey, that pic you have in your post looks like it was taken in my neighborhood somewhere lol or at least close to it. You wouldn't happen to be in the Littleton/Centennial area would ya?
