U-Bolts Snapped!

Recommended Posts

Posted

A buddy of mine installed some 2" lift blocks on his 1500HD just as I did on my 2500HD. After having them on only 3 days, one of his u-bolts snapped at the 90 deg. bend in the bolt. They were tightened to 100 ft-lbs with a torque wrench per the instructions.

But I did notice that the square u-bolts are a little wider than the leafs so there is a gap between the u-bolts and the leafs, is that a concern?

He ordered some grade 5 u-bolts from Napa which will fit tight against the leafs for $12 a piece which I guess is cheap compared to losing your rear axle.

I've had mine on for over a year with no problems so I'm thinking it might have been a bad bolt.
