Ignition switch problems

I've got an 00 chevy, 54k miles, and he d**n ignition switch or something is shot! The past week or so, it's been slow starting when it's cold, I guess. but like, a few times this past week when I went to start it, it like delayed! I had to turn the key like 5 or 6 times to get it to finally turn over. Is there a loose wire somwehre? Starter relay messed up? Or is the ignition switch in he column itself going out? I'd really like to know, I don't want to be stranded!

Sounds like your battery's going bad. Replace that first.

Well, the battery seems to be fine, everything works, and it fires right up if you shut it dwn then refire it. But when youfire it up uin the morning and such, it just goes *lick*. After a few tries, it starts. My dad said it might be th battery, but if it was, it wouldn't start at all prolly.

Sounds like a weak battery. Maybe something is draining it at night. That would explain why it will fire back up after running, the alt is charging it enough to have a stronger load. That really does sound like a weak battery though.

My truck is older ('95) but it was doin the same thing.I load tested the battery it was fine...the starter solonoid was bad ..turn the key..click.again..click..hold it started! Only acted up after it sat 4 awhile also..I beleive newer trucks use a similar starter...gear reduction type...I know that some of the parts stores in my area check starting/charging system 4 free (Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts 4 example)
