Simplest way to get DVD/screen for my truck?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

What is the simplest way to connect a DVD player and an LCD screen for my truck? Do I need a special harness? I have steering wheel audio control buttons and Onstar as well, if that matters. I'm very new at this mobile audio/video stuff, so any pointers are appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I heard that for 03+ Silverados, installation can be difficult because GM somehow made it harder for the aftermarket to change the stock system. What exactly is different between 02 and earlier vs. 03 and later trucks?

Thanks!

The 02' and earlier radios received power from the truck and had a turn on accessory wire that told the radio when to turn on or off. The 03' and newer radios use a data bus to do the same thing. The new radio has no accessory power wire meaning the power wire to the radio is always hot and the BCM tells the radio when it is ok to be on or off.... When I changed out my 03' radio for aftermarket I purchased the chime/data bus device that would give me the chime feature back and would communicate with the data bus so I could retain the power on feature (radio remains on after the truck is turned off for 10 minutes or until the door is opened) And the new radio has a line in so I can easily add a device with out using the dreaded FM modulator

Hope this helped

I purchased my data bus interface and steering wheel control adapter from Crutchfield. This is the pn for the data bus interface Metra VT-GMRC-01 GM Class II Data bus Interface Link and the steering wheel control interface PAC SWI-X Link
