Question about Magnaflow cat-back

I just got mine in. On their website it says the cat-back systems are all stainless steel including the muffler, pipes, clamps and tips. I know the muffler and tips are polished, but to me the pipes really don't look like stainless steel. Are they? Also, I thought a magnet would not stick to stainless steel....

in terms of stainless steel there are all sorts of grades and finishes.

I've personally seen mirror finish, bright, and plain. maybe they just didn't polish it.

I heard a magnaflow in person on a 5.3 Avalanche and it sounds sweet

Thanks for the reply slotshot. Yeah only the muffler and tips come polished, which is fine. The pipes look like regular steel, but they may be stainless just plain. Just wondering what others thought about the look of the pipe sections.

The tips and muffler are different grade stainless than the rest of the cat-back. I believe the tips & mufflers are grade 304 & the pipes are a different grade with higher carbon content to allow it to take elevated temperatures better.

yea, there are different types of stainless steel. Dad ordered one under the assumption that all of it was 304 stainless and soon found that it wasn't. Not to mention the guy at jegs lied to him. The 2003 magnaflow exhaust for a surburban will not fit the '04 by the way. The hangers are different. Anyways, dad got pissed about that and about it not being true 304 all the way and sent it back. Got a corsa instead. Loves it!

Well got the Magnaflow cat-back on a few days ago. Nice system, everything fit well, but I have to admit, it's a little louder than I thought it would be. Quiet at idle, but get on it just a little and it's pretty loud. Has some resonance at highway speeds to. Little disappointed in that. Actually sounds better at 70 in drive than overdrive. May have to change the muffler, I'm going to drive it a few weeks and see if I get use to it.
