New here...Got a couple of ?

This is my first post. I got a rather pristine 1999 Chev. CK 3500 Dualie, full size, crew cab. I am going to use it to tow a car trailer. It has a 7.4 (454) with a automatic in it with 4.10 gears and about 49K miles on it. The truck looks almost new, and I have several questions on it.

1) I was wondering with this set up towing a open car trailer about 5K pounds what type of milage I should get, What is a good MPH to be at or RPM as at 65 it running about 2.2K RPM.

2) I found the untouched rear trailer towing wireing harness but where will the other end be found under the dash? but a little closer location would be helpful, I plan to use a prodigy controler.

3) I have towed the trailer a short distance with the car and the truck doesnt even feel any strain and pulls very good.(I am thinking of in the future a different rear gear change).

4) The truck does not even had dings on the top of the bed rails and it was set up for a 5er , as I can see the plug from below the bed on the drivers side.

6) I am planning a trip from Vegas to Phoenix in a couple of weeks, I am out of town and the truck is back home. The advance info would be great.

7) I plan to put in synthitic's (sp) oils on the next oil change.

I would appreciate any heads up and possible help to enjoy my "new Second hand truck"

Thanks fellow members

First off, welcome to the forum!!! :P

I would think that you would see 8-10 MPG's while towing depending on the terrain and your right foot.

I don't know how the brake harness system works on the OBS trucks, but on the new body style trucks, you plug a pigtail into the fuse block behind the E-Brake peddle. It's a modular type plug with loose wires on the other end, and you wire your controller to them.

The 4.10 gear with the 454 is a great combo for towing... it keeps the RPM's right at the bottom of the power band. I surely wouldn't go with 373's if you bought this truck to tow with, unless you live somewhere extremely flat. Just because you are turning a few more RPM's, doesn't mean that you are using more fuel. If you lug the motor, you will burn more fuel than if you turn a few RPM's and keep the truck in the power band.

Good luck with your new truck!!! It sure sounds nice!!!

Thanks for the help seems like your the only other person that has a sim truck as I do  But I will hang around here and check in a lot and fill info to other truck owners :P

Thanks again and tomorrow I'll hit the chevrolet dealership in a search for a trailer harness.

Thanks

Sorry I didn't have all your answers... Obviously there are more NBS truck owners here than Old Body Style trucks like yours, but there are plenty of guys/gals here that are running trucks like yours, plus most of the NBS guys have had OBS trucks in the past.

Stick around and join in the fun!!!
