long block vs. short block

hey guys, one of my friends and i were having a deep conversation bordering on argument between a long block and a short block. I would like your opinion/explanation between the two.

short block = block, crank, rods, pistons, cam, chain, and gears.

 

long block - adds: complete heads(valves, springs, rocker arms) pushrods, lifters.
